The Good Work
Throughout his life, Joe has always been deeply involved in charities and other philanthropic endeavors. His generous spirit and leadership has carried for decades following his life on the gridiron.
The March of Dimes
Joe has been a March of Dimes volunteer for just over 4 decades. Most recently, he was their WalkAmerica Honorary Chair from 1998 until 2007. He also holds a celebrity golf outing annually on Long Island, to benefit the great work of March of Dimes.
The Marty Lyons Classic
One of the highlights of Joe’s year is getting back together with the Jets family for good causes. The Marty Lyons Classic, which celebrated its 25th year in 2010, grants wishes to children, between the ages of 3 to 17, who have terminal or life-threatening illnesses.
Joe Namath/John Dockery Football Camp
Now in our 41st year, the Joe Namath/John Dockery Football Camp offers instructional football for campers between the ages of 8-18. The camp is broken down into three divisions based on size, ability, and previous playing experience. Camp for the summer of 2012 is scheduled for July 15th -20th at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, CT.
Children First Foundation, INC.
An organization close to Joe’s heart, Children First Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to improving the well-being of Alabama’s children through:
1) Advocacy, to ensure that children’s issues are a top priority with policymakers and political leaders;
2) Awareness, to bring children’s needs and issues to the attention of Alabama’s policymakers, political leaders and citizens, and to promote the universally accepted concept of ‘prevention.’
3) Accountability, to serve as a watchdog over children’s programs and services and over policymakers on children’s issues; to issue an annual report card to ensure accountability.
